I am extremely orange. If you’ve ever taken the True Colors personality test, you might be thinking, “ahhh…that makes sense.”
Orange people are optimistic, passionate, and bold. They hate routine and are always seeking adventure. As one writer said, “Oranges love their flair.”
I often reflect on my photography year and find myself in a contemplative, mellow spirit. It’s the kind of soulful writing that pairs well with a pour-over coffee in a vintage bookstore. My favorite writing happened when I was an intern in Denver, people-watching in a coffeeshop window, or when we were in Spain and I had endless time and an abundance of unknown future. Yet, 2015 didn’t match the Kerouac vibe of nomadic travel and restless nights. We shared the typical worries and hopes of any 20-something couple, but a sense of belonging pieced together a year of gratitude and contentment.
So I’m here to wave my flair flag and indulge in a frivolous post to reflect on some of my favorite things of 2015. No memories and photographic moments, but things that spoke to my passions and simply made me happy. Perhaps sharing these will inspire the orange in you to pay tribute to the little things in your year that brought you color and joy.
+ A white (faux) fur blanket. I fell in love with a fur tree skirt, but wasn’t willing to pay $75, so I found a $15 fur blanket at Home Goods and couldn’t wait to get rid of my Christmas tree after Christmas so I could use my makeshift tree skirt.
+ Life Factory water bottles. These are by far the best glass water bottles we’ve come across. I have one in pink and aqua with the straw.
+ Le Tote. I started renting clothes when my mom bought me a trial subscription for my birthday. It’s like Netflix for clothes. I receive three pieces of clothing and two accessories, then return them whenever I want and receive a new tote. It’s cut down on my shopping and fed my desire for change and pretty things.
+ Blanket Scarves. Blanket scarves have won my heart over. There’s nothing better than having an accessible blanket at all times. I am way too petite of a person to not have my entire neck swallowed by their blankety girth, but their warmth has allowed me to continue surviving Iowa winter.
+ Rifle Paper Co. iPhone cases. I am a millennial. I love my rose gold iPhone with a case designed by my favorite paperie. I bought my mom the one with lace and I love the clear covers with their delicate art.
+ #Girl Boss. One of my favorite books of the year. Other favorite reads from 2015: Big Magic, Eleanor & Park, Wonder and Not That Kind of Girl (Lena Dunham). I’m currently reading The Circle (Dave Eggers) and I love it. On deck – Why Not Me? (Mindy Kaling)
+ Fresh flowers. If you follow me on instagram (@hannahjanewhite), you know that I adore fresh flowers. If they aren’t peonies from my backyard, I’m at Bark and Bloom handpicking their by-the-stem flowers or getting an expertly styled bouquet. One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is seeing the bouquets. This year did not disappoint.
+ Ankle boots. I’ve never been a “shoe person” and liked to stick with a pretty minimal rotation of shoes. This year, I fell in love with all different kinds of booties and hope they never go out of style.
+ A Chambray shirt. I like to follow trends…and this is one of my favorites. Everyone should own at least one.
